Missed the School Bus? BWAT Can Help

Missing the bus is a bad start to the day. For some kids, the bus is the only way to get to school. An anonymous donor had the brilliant idea to give families another option when kids don’t make it to the school bus on time. They can get a ride to school by calling the brand new “Missed the Bus, Just Call Us” program through Blue Water Area Transit.

The program is not just for those who might not have a ride to school in the morning, but for those who might have an after-school activity and need a ride home. Participating in afterschool clubs and sports practices is vital for many students, and this program could solve the transportation program that could be holding kids back from participating.

The “Missed the Bus, Just Call Us” service is for middle school and high school students in the Port Huron Area School District who live in the City of Port Huron, Port Huron Township, Fort Gratiot Township, or Burtchville Township.

The service begins Monday, April 12th, according to a press release from Blue Water Area Transit. To arrange a ride, call 810-987-7373 and select option #2. Callers will then need to tell the dispatcher that they need a ride to or from school, and the dispatcher will tell them how to connect with an existing route or utilize the dial-a-ride service, pending availability. The rides are free, thanks to that thoughtful anonymous donor.
