Musical Theater Workshop Gives Young Performers Tips for Successful Auditions

No one wants to show up to their Broadway (or Blue Water Area) audition unprepared. Learn what it’s like to really audition for a show, whether it’s on Broadway or in local theater, with the Mainstreet Dance Connection Musical Theater Workshop.

Participants will learn from real industry professionals, Dan and AnnaLee Higgins, who have been dancing for over 25 years each. The couple has been in many dance and musical theater productions over the years, performing in multiple playhouses across the U.S. and abroad. They have choreographed professional shows as well as school and show choir productions, along with currently being on staff at Mainstreet Dance Connection in Port Huron, Michigan.

There are two sessions of the workshop: one next week and one in August. Students will learn choreography from a real musical, get tips on auditioning, and get to practice their own mock audition. They will also get to have a lot of fun in a relaxed and supportive environment and make some new friends with similar interests.

There are two age groups for both sessions: grades two through six and grades seven and up. The price is $40 for each two-day session. The first night of the class will focus on audition techniques and how auditions are run. Students will get to learn from Dan and AnnaLee’s experience as professionals. Students will also learn a short dance combination and participate in a mock audition. They will get some feedback and suggestions for improvement that they can use for the next night’s second mock audition, along with learning a longer combination of choreography. This class is a must for any young performers with an interest in getting their dream role, whether it’s as top billing or as a backup dancer in a theatrical production.
