Have you ever thought about writing a book? Local dad and author, Scott Beauchamp, says to go for it. He should know, as he already has one book published and is working on a second.

Beauchamp is the author of Another…Escaping Time, which is available on Amazon. The novel is suitable for young readers and adults. According to the author, “The book is a nostalgic coming of age novel with Sci-Fi themes. Back in 1988 two middle school boys meet, become friends, and proceed to test the limits of technology through different experiments and adventures. The results of one such experiences would have a major effect on each of their lives in the future and for an eternity to come.”

Early Influences

Beauchamp told BlueWaterParent.com how he got started writing. He started in second grade, particularly inspired by the work of Dr. Seuss and Beverly Cleary. He is currently reading Beverly Cleary with his young daughter, sharing his favorite author with a new generation. Those early literary influences got him started with writing poems and short stories as a young elementary student and he never stopped.

Inspiration

Getting the idea for his first published novel, Another…Escaping Time, came from a variety of influences. Beauchamp said, “Nowadays my stories are inspired by many different things, from the movies and shows that I watch, to the music I listen to, and of course books that I read. Still, other inspiration comes from things like hockey, and naturally my wife and children, as well as my own past experiences. They always say to write what you know, and it is amazing sometimes how something completely unrelated can spark an idea.”

Beauchamp continues to write when he has time and is working on a sequel to his first novel, expected to be out later this year or early 2025. He also has poetry and short story collections, with themes ranging from hockey to Halloween. There is no shortage of ideas from this prolific wordsmith. Like all artists, the only restriction is time. Beauchamp is a die-hard Red Wings fan and is himself a hockey player, along with being a busy hockey and dance dad, along with working, so making time to write is challenging.

Keep Writing

Beauchamp has encouragement for aspiring authors. He said, “My advice for any aspiring author would be to just keep writing and don’t be afraid to put it out there for others to read. There are so many outlets to publish your works these days. For the longest time I was scared and nervous, but it isn’t all about the success of sales or popularity, or even writing so other people will like it. Write what you like and write for yourself. Try to be patient and stay positive.”
