Read to Your Kids!
The easiest way to turn your kids into good readers and eager readers is to make reading a part of daily life. Reading at bedtime is a great habit, and it’s never too early to start. Reading the same books over and over, and reading books that rhyme and have patterns, sets children up for early reading success.
Challenge
Beginning March 1, parents can participate in the “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” program through the St. Clair County Library System. The goal is to read as many books as possible to children before they start Kindergarten. Any book counts, and repeats count.
Rewards for Milestones
The book challenge is tracked with the Beanstack tracker. Families that use the tracker will get rewards for meeting milestone challenges and will get a backpack just in time for starting Kindergarten. Each library branch of the St. Clair County Library System will have a special backdrop where photos can be taken as milestones are met. The Beanstack is also used for the library’s summer reading program, so if you already have an account, you don’t need to create a new one for the 1000 Books Challenge.
