“How did you hear about that?”
“Will you let me know about that next time?”
“I wish I knew about these things.”
Those are the things I have been hearing again now that recreation and educational opportunities are opened back up after the long pandemic closures and restrictions. Those frustrated conversations that I was hearing were a signal that it was time to get BlueWaterParent.com back in business.
There is plenty to do around here. Port Huron and the surrounding communities have a lot to offer, much of it free or low cost. The only problem is that parents, grandparents, and caregivers who might be looking for something to do with the kids don’t know where to look to find out what’s going on.
Sure, each organization has its own calendar, but wouldn’t it be cool to have everything in one place, with all of the non-kid stuff filtered out? The BlueWaterParent.com calendar has all the kid-friendly festivals, library activities, and local recreation opportunities all in one place.
What’s not on the calendar? Things that you wouldn’t want to take a kid to: late night concerts, alcohol-themed events, educational lectures and talks meant for adults, and anything else that doesn’t fit the family-friendly vibe.
The calendar generally includes anything that is targeted at kids or families and to which the public is welcome. There might be prior registration required, but that will be clearly noted. Things like karate class, dance lessons, and other things that you sign up for, like for a semester or a session, are not on the calendar, but links to those types of things could be found in the activity guides (forthcoming) or with links from advertisers.
The calendar also includes seasonal activities like the Super Slide at Port Huron’s Palmer Park and the holiday light display at Pine Grove Park, which is open for a month and a half at the end of the year. It includes weekend festivals and fairs to which kids are welcomed. It also includes things that can help parents do their jobs better, like the Community Baby Shower, and classes or events that offer assistance to families.
So, you can open up the link on your phone, take a glance at what’s coming up this week, and make plans to have some fun and make some memories.
If no one shows up to community events, organizers will stop having them. If no one knows about the events, they won’t show up.
The BlueWaterParent.com Events Calendar is one more way to get the word out and to make sure that this beautiful little part of the world continues to be a great place to do the hardest job in the world: raise decent kids.
