Blue Water Martial Arts’ “Force Against Hunger” has become a yearly tradition in the Blue Water Area. The popular fundraiser is expected to sell out, so time slots should be reserved early.
Cosplay for a Cause
What is “Force Against Hunger”? It’s an actual cosplay-style Star Wars production that started in 2015. Those who attend will be immersed in the theme and feel like they stepped into another galaxy. Proceeds from the event help to feed local families and put Christmas gifts in the hands of those in need.
Owner, Master Michael Weir said, “This involves a complete transformation of the dojang into various galaxies depending upon the theme title, and visitors are gathered into small groups that have a special mission they need to complete, meeting many Star Wars characters (good, bad, and mischievous) along the way. Members of the Great Lakes Garrison chapter of the 501st Legion (Star Wars superfans that authentically portray Star Wars characters) have joined us for all of them. “
Meeting Community Needs
This year’s event takes place on Saturday, November 2nd.
The goal of the event is to raise money to provide holiday meals for people in the St. Clair County community who may be struggling financially around the holidays. Weir said that the meals are distributed through local agencies. Last year, 160 food boxes were assembled. In addition to food, Blue Water Martial Arts volunteers go shopping to support the St. Clair County chapter of Toys for Tots and get as much as they can to help the effort.
Best Show Yet
Weir said, “This year is going to be the best show we have ever put on. We have stepped up our game and put in a lot of work to make this more entertaining and exciting. This year we have also included some stuff for the adults.”
