Halloween is quickly approaching, and I love doing all of the fun fall-themed crafts with my kiddos. Over the next few weeks, I plan to share all of the projects we create, but I needed to share our easiest craft so far: painted pumpkin rocks!
We went to the beach and chose rocks of various sizes to take home and paint. I gave my daughter a sponge brush and we painted them all orange. Even my 15-month-old was able to help with this because there was really no skill needed, just covering them all in orange paint!
I then cut out assorted shapes from black construction paper. Triangles, squares, semi-circles, zig-zags & squiggles. The more choices, the more fun it was!
When the rocks were dry, I got the sponge brushes back out and some Modge Podge. (water and bottle glue mixed together would work just as well.) I allowed my daughter to place the shapes on the rocks however she pleased, but did try to show her the basic idea for eyes, noses, mouths, etc. Once they were placed we used the Modge Podge to cover the entire rock so they were sure to stick.
That’s really all there is to it! If you plan to display the rocks outside, I do recommend spraying with some sort of clear coat to protect from the weather. This project was so easy and fun, we will be adding more pumpkin rocks to our patch soon!
