Dance, Theater, CPR, Cooking, and much more

The Port Huron Recreation Department has a full catalog of events and classes for both residents and non-residents. Registration for City of Port Huron residents begins January 8th. Non-residents can register on January 9th.

This winter’s offerings are diverse. There are performing arts classes led by Debra McNair at the Harvey Community Center. This is new this year, as the City of Port Huron is bringing indoor programming to the south side of the city.

CPR, First Aid, and Babysitting classes are available at the Palmer Park Recreation Center later in the season. These are a great way to get caregivers prepared for the summer season.

There are also cooking classes in partnership with the Culinary Institute of Michigan, several art classes, and a music class with professional musician Jacob Murfin.

Beginner Dance, Bollywood Fusion

Children ages 3-8 can take dance classes from January through May. These popular classes give children a fun atmosphere for getting some exercise and learning the foundations of dance. There is also a Bollywood Fusion class with sessions for all ages, instructed by Vandana Krishnaswami.

Puzzlepalooza, Cabin Fever, Fly Me to the Moon Dance

Are you gifted in putting together puzzles? Here’s your chance to shine: Puzzlepalooza on January 27th and March 10th. Need a date night but don’t have a babysitter? Send the kids to Cabin Fever on January 30 and February 27. They will have a blast, and you will get three hours to do whatever you want. Feel like getting fancy? Sign up for the Fly Me to the Moon Dance that will be at the Doubletree in Port Huron on February 5th.

Stay Active

There’s more! The Port Huron Rec. Department has some longstanding partnerships with area institutions, as well as some new ones. Little ones can test out Karate with Blue Water Martial Arts, ice skating with the Port Huron Prowlers, figure skating with the Port Huron Figure Skating Club, and Rock Climbing at the Wrigley Center with climbing expert Kaitlin Wilson. Check out the full lineup and register at www.porthuronrec.com.
