Tips for Freshening Up Your Home for Spring

Ignore those mounds of melting snow. Spring is here. Well, almost. As the weather gets warmer and the days grow longer, the annual tradition of spring cleaning and refreshing one’s home gets into gear.

We asked Erin MacNeill, Designer and Owner of Willow and Grove Design, to let us in on the top trends for the 2023 design season. She said, “There are always some trends that are fun to play with for the seasons. The first is color- add some color to your space: new throw pillows, paint, picture frames, a new rug.  Choose a color you love and add something new to your space.  Muted colors all the way to deep rich colors are making their presence known!  Sage greens and rich neutrals are beautiful additions to any space.”

MacNeill has a unique approach that is focused on what the homeowner loves. She said, “I’m a big believer in filling your home with things YOU love: pieces that mean something to you or your family.” She also focuses on sustainability. MacNeill suggested “re-using furniture in a different space, re-framing a picture because you love the frame, using vintage glasses as candle holders. Little unique touches have a big impact. The easiest way to do this? Visit a vintage store or antique shop.  Finding a piece that has a past, has a story- I call them treasures.” She said that the hunt for sustainable furniture is fun too.

What’s hot for design this spring? MacNeill said, “We’re warming things up with warm wood tones and leaving the cooler grey tones behind.” She pointed to warm wood floors and furniture that adds warmth to your space as on trend right now. “Neutral wood flooring with warm undertones and tiles that aren’t bright white but have a warmer undertone are being used throughout the home”, according to MacNeill.

MacNeill said, “If ever you’re unsure of your design decisions, I’m always here to help!  Willow & Grove Interior Design loves taking on massive full home renovations and new builds but finds joy in helping clients style small spaces, or shop for new decor pieces.  I want to help you create a home that you love.  Your spaces should be functional, practical, and purposeful.  I want you to love the space you’re in!”
