Federal income guidelines have recently been updated for the Women, Infants, and Children Program. This taxpayer-funded federal program—administered at the state level—provides nutritious food for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, infant formula, and first foods for children, along with healthcare referrals and nutrition education. The program serves mothers and babies up to age five.

According to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), WIC plays a vital role in improving maternal and child health outcomes across the state. Studies show the program helps reduce fetal deaths and infant mortality, decreases low birth weight deliveries, lowers iron deficiency anemia rates, and improves childhood immunization rates. Currently, over 187,000 Michigan residents participate in WIC.
