The desire to hit the open road and get out of town, even for just a few days, is common for families who have been stuck inside during the cold winter, or who need some quality time together to reconnect before spring and summer schedules take over.
We asked Theresa Winters of Faraway Places Travel for some ideas on easy road trips for families that aren’t too long of a drive and that pack in the most fun.
Winters suggested any coastal town in Michigan, even the distant ones like Mackinaw, towns in the Upper Peninsula, and Traverse City. She also recommended Hocking Hills in Ohio. Winters said, “If you are looking for more museums and a city vibe, Grand Rapids is wonderful! Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is so fun.” She also said Detroit would be a good choice.
Winters said that our international neighbor, Canada, has some lovely beach towns that are just a short drive away if you have the proper documentation for crossing the border.
