Friends of the St. Clair River Invite to “Opt Outside” on Black Friday

The day after Thanksgiving is often a day of family traditions. Some get a thrill from hunting for bargains in packed stores. Some look forward to spending the day hunting for a deer to fill the freezer. Some use the day to decorate for Christmas.

The Friends of the St. Clair offer another option: taking a hike. They are hosting the Opt Outside Hike on Friday, November 25th at 10 a.m. The hike will be held at Columbus County Park. It’s free to join them and participants will get to go on self-led quests, guided hikes, and a children’s scavenger hunt. Boots are a good idea as there are hills, wetlands, woodlands, and river shoreline.

The hike is free, but registration is recommended. There will be a bonfire, smores, and hot cocoa for purchase.

Friends Education Manager, Melissa Kivel, said, “This outdoor event offers a fun, green alternative to the pressure holiday shopping sometimes brings. We encourage people to kick off their holiday in a relaxed setting with a beautiful landscape to explore.”
