Libraries Plan Cross-Border “Wave”

There aren’t a lot of places where you can easily see another country and wave to your friends across the border. Port Huron, Michigan and Sarnia, Ontario are two of those special places, and libraries on both sides of the border are taking advantage of the unique geographical opportunity.

On Saturday, August 12th, the Children’s Library of the Port Huron (Main) Branch of the St. Clair County Library System in Michigan, USA and the Point Edward and Sarnia Library Branches in Ontario, Canada will be hosting a Trolley Parade and Cross-Border Wave beneath the Blue Water Bridge, which connects the two countries.

The Wave is the capstone to a summer-long pen pal program between the two libraries, where children exchanged letters.

On the U.S. side, the fun starts on the west lawn of the Main Library in downtown Port Huron with a noon picnic. Then the lucky first 19 kids and 8 adults who register will board the trolley to drive to the Blue Water Bridge. Everyone else can follow in their own vehicles. The wave takes place at 1:30. The trolley returns to the library at 2:00.
