A Beautiful Me is a Port Huron-based non-profit that works to empower girls and women throughout the region. They recently received a huge donation of new formal dresses from a Detroit-area business that closed its doors.
That company’s loss is local prom-goers’ gain, as A Beautiful Me is making 600 dresses available to the public at their Prom Fashion Show and Sale on Saturday, February 17th from noon to 3 p.m. at Wrigley Hall in Downtown Port Huron.
A Beautiful Me Founder and Executive Director, Karen Palka, said, “Our goal is to provide affordable, beautiful dresses that have passed our 10-point inspection to sell on the floor. With every purchase of every dress (or accessory) the revenue supports our many programs we have created to build girls confidence.”
The dresses, in sizes 0-28, are available for just $85-229, which is significantly less than retail.
Palka said, “This is called a social enterprise. We are known for quality of our merchandise and our customer service. Teen girls can sign-up and participate in our free, original business program learning hands-on life skills through our retail store. This is sustainability in action with a circular economy.”
Forty of the dresses will be modeled and attendees will then have a chance to shop. an alterations specialist will be on hand as well, for that perfect fit.

If you can’t make the show and sale, you can shop at The Closet by A Beautiful Me in downtown Port Huron from Monday-Friday 12-6 pm and Saturday 10-3 pm.
A Beautiful Me is a 501c3 charitable organization that develops and trains girls in 3rd-12th grades through confidence-building workshops and programs since 2008.
