Using a Cell Phone While Driving Can Get You a Ticket

Spread the word: Michigan’s new distracted driving law went into effect today. It is now illegal to use a phone while driving. No more taking a call, looking up directions, or glancing at a text while driving. This includes using a phone while being stopped at a traffic light or in a traffic jam. Dashboard-mounted phones are included in the ban. Integrated systems that use Bluetooth are allowed if they take just one touch to operate.

Making a call to call 911 is allowed. Law enforcement can issue citations. Penalties start at $100 and/or 16 hours of community service.
