If you’ve had a baby on formula over the past year or so, you know it’s been a struggle. Facing empty shelves at the store, many parents had to switch formulas, while others were left scrambling to find that one special brand that their baby would tolerate.
For those receiving WIC benefits, there might be another formula change in the future. Michigan’s Women, Infants & Children program is going back to allowing only for Similac brand baby formula starting March 1st.
Non-contract formula was allowed over the past year due to supply chain issues affecting the availability of some brands of formula. The formula crisis seems to be subsiding, so it’s back to Similac.
According to MDHHS, this is the federal government’s call and they have ended the emergency extensions.
Starting March 1, Michigan WIC will return to the following Similac WIC contract formulas:
- Similac Advance
- Similac Total Comfort
- Similac Sensitive
- Similac Isomil Soy
